Description

Most contact adhesives and leather cements are not designed for stitching through. They either gum up the needle, resist the thread, or leave a stiff bond line that affects how the seam sits. Aquilim GL is designed for exactly this job — bonding pieces that will be sewn afterwards.

Key Details

  • Designed specifically for bond-then-sew work
  • Flexible adhesive film when dry — needle passes cleanly, stitch channels stay open
  • Film becomes tacky within 1 minute; press together within 5 minutes of application
  • Repositionable — peel apart and realign as many times as needed
  • Sew immediately after pressing — no waiting
  • Water-based — no solvents, no fumes
  • Suitable for belts, bags, straps, wallets, leather panel assembly
  • Store above 10°C — will not recover if frozen
  • Made in Germany by Renia

How to Use

Apply to both surfaces and allow to dry — the film becomes tacky within 1 minute. Press the pieces together within 5 minutes. If the alignment is not right, the bond can be peeled apart and the pieces repositioned. Multiple corrections are possible without re-applying adhesive. Once you are satisfied, press firmly and sew straight through. No waiting.

Store above 10°C at all times. Freezing destroys the emulsion and the product cannot be recovered.

Why the Film Stays Flexible

The difference is in the adhesive film itself. Once GL dries, the film stays flexible rather than hardening. When the needle passes through, it goes cleanly — no drag, no gumming, no stitch channel that closes over before the thread follows. This is not a workaround or a compromise. It is how the product was formulated, specifically for the leather and footwear trade where sewing through bonded layers is standard practice.

This is the adhesive to reach for on belts, bag straps, bag panels, and any assembly where the stitch line crosses the glued area. If your needle never crosses the glue line, standard 330 is fine and simpler. But if you are stitching through bonded leather — and most leatherworkers are — GL is the correct tool for that job.
