Choosing Boards, Mats, and Punching Surfaces for Leathercraft
Leathercraft needs different surfaces for different jobs. Use a self-healing craft cutting mat for knife work, a proper punching block with a sacrificial vinyl or plastic pad for punches and stitching irons, and a stable marble or granite slab for skiving. If glass is used for skiving, it should be safety glass at least 10mm thick with safe edges and secure support. Never punch against stone, glass, metal or a self-healing craft mat.
