Choosing Leather Thickness for Wallets, Belts, and Small Goods
Leather thickness should suit the complete construction and the result you want. Common starting ranges are around 0.8–1.5mm for slim wallet layers, 1–1.5mm for card holders, 2–3mm for many bag panels and 3–4.5mm for belts. These are examples, not fixed rules: temper, lining, reinforcement, skiving and the number of layers all affect the finished piece.
